THE equation
Posted at 02:16 PM
Finally… I can update my blog now… but sadly, I only have one topic in mind: Math 21
Two longtests and one midterm exam, the times to prove our knowledge and justify our oh-soooo-hardwork by answering 400-points worth of calculus problems are already over and done with. I really really really to the thousandth power gave my best and worked very very very approaching infinity hard for those exams…But…
presenting: the LETHAL EQUATION!!
nervousness = carelessness
+
Our teacher’s OC-ness and PASSION for giving out ZEROS

BIG ANSWER
Posted at 09:39 PM
Okay, so here's my decision: IM NOT SHIFTING.
(well unless they kick me out. haha)
So if things turn out well, I'll be combining ITM 14, foreign language (french), and PE/NSTP with my being a math teacher 40 minutes a day, every weekday this summer.
Thank you to those who talked me into staying in ME. Thanks for explaining to me that maybe... I don't have to choose between academics and extracurriculars. I'll try my luck this summer. If I can balance these stuff, I'll take it as a sign that I can stay in ME and also go to Europe in 3rd yr (and have about 5 major subjects when I get back). Again, I stress that this is only if I pass. hahaha. I heard they are making things extra-difficult for us right now cause they really have to limit the number of ME students entering 2nd year, 3rd yr, and of course, 4th year.
hehe please pray for me

BIG QUESTIONS
Posted at 07:25 PM
I joined this org in school called "Alay Ni Ignacio" (ANI). We will be teaching top 10 percent of the incoming 3rd and 4th year students of some public schools in Quezon City and Marikina. We will build this "school within a school" with teachers, administrators, etc. We will help those students pass college entrance exams and earn college degrees.
My first big question is sort of sort of shallow. Hehe. I'm thinking whether I should teach math or just become a mentor. Teaching math is, I think, more important and fulfilling, but it entails a LOT more time, effort, and patience. But I’m not sure if I would be able to handle it since I’m planning to take up advanced subjects this summer, well because of my JTA (junior term abroad) plans. And if maybe I decided to teach math, will I be a decent teacher and will the students be able to understand my lessons?? I have short patience by the way =P
Jen and I were discussing this thing yesterday during Math class. And since our teacher is really really sensitive to noise, we decided to just talk to each other using pens and my rainbow pad. And because Hershey was sitting next to Jen, he was able to write this thing which mad me think (seryoso Hershey)
*comment (serious comment by Hershey)
-teaching is easy, lalo na if you see the reason behind it. As long as you think may cause ang ginagawa mo sa pagtuturo, madali lang. How to teach? Easy, just be yourself. Remember: You can answer the “How” if you know the “Why”
Hehe. Anyway, after loooong, deep thought, I decided to just teach math. I think my “schedule problems” are toooo shallow compared to those students’ educational needs. God answered my prayers before, made me pass Ateneo, and brought be to Management Engineering. And now I want to give something back to Him, and I want other people to also experience the same joy and fulfillment that I felt when I got into my dream course and school And besides, I’m not really sure if I’m actually gonna take up difficult subjects like ITM 14 this summer…. I might shift to another course by the end of the year...
This brings me to my second big question: To shift or not to shift. Yeah yeah I know that I’ve stated empathically in a previous entry of mine that I won’t shift unless they force me to. But my doubt about teaching this summer somehow made me think. Maybe if I shift to a lighter course, I will be able to do more things like earn minors, participate in international business tours, participate in the Junior Term Abroad, etc etc. College is not only about grades. It’s about having fun and learning things, not necessarily inside a classroom. And I think that learning from various programs and experiences is a lot better than learning about math, statistics, etc.
And besides, which looks better in a resume?
* Ateneo BS Management Engineering graduate
* 2 pt sumthin QPI
or
* Ateneo BS Management graduate
* 3 pt sumthin QPI
* Earned a minor in Marketing and International Business
* Was an active leader in various school-based organizations
* Participated in the Hongkong-China Business Tour 2007
* Studied in a university in France in her Junior year
* Participated in the SOMBA program and was able to successfully run her own business in her Senior year
I'm not really saying that I will be able to do all those things. But... just maybe =P
And I'm not yet decided. well yah, SAYANG nga yung M.E. I'm just gonna talk to our program director soon...
Please help me decide about this shifting problem of mine. I would really value your comments
